Mondoko was launched and executed successfully as a custom board-designed small houses for kids.
Why not designing, creating and making low cost cardboard houses for letting children play with them? A house costed 10 €.
Possibilities were infinite. Painting, cutting and pasting over the roof, playing, creating a little world inside, decorating, joining many of them to create neighborhoods…
A project planned for one year which sold 5k units of Mondoko houses.
The project raised 50k € in less than 12 months - and it was a side project.
A physical product
Mondoko was built around a simple material: a small cardboard house that children could turn into their own space. Painting, cutting, pasting and joining houses made the object a starting point for play rather than a finished toy with only one use. The photograph above shows one decorated example.
The project sold about 5,000 houses and brought in roughly €50,000 during its planned one-year run. It was an early side project before the software work collected elsewhere on this site. Read my background for that wider timeline, or browse the projects index for the later digital products.
