Cuento con laIA

cuentoconlaia.com turns a couple of photos into a personalised, illustrated 20-page bedtime book for a child.

The name is a pun that only works in Spanish: cuento con la IA — “a story with the AI” — reads identically to cuento con laIA, “I count on laIA”, laIA being the star that guides the story.

How it works

1. Upload up to two protagonists — typically the child and a favourite plush toy.
2. Say what the story should be — guided (pick a mission, a style, the characters), free text, or me siento con suerte, where you upload the photos and let the model invent it.
3. The pipeline runs — moderation, story planning, twenty illustrated pages generated with the uploaded faces locked in as reference characters, then assembly into a PDF.
4. The book arrives by email in five to ten minutes, as a downloadable PDF and a shareable link.

Privacy

Photos of children are the most sensitive input a product can take, so the constraints are strict: uploads are auto-deleted after 30 days, never used to train models, hosted in the EU (Frankfurt), GDPR-compliant, with no marketing cookies. Every upload passes an automated moderation gate before anything is generated, and that gate fails closed.

Tech stack

The site is Next.js 15 with the App Router, statically exported through OpenNext to CloudFront. The generation pipeline is an AWS Step Functions state machine over Python 3.13 Lambdas on ARM64 — moderate, plan the story, generate twenty images as a parallel Map state, assemble the PDF, notify. DynamoDB and S3 hold state and artefacts, SES sends the mail, Stripe takes the payment, and everything is provisioned with Terraform and deployed by GitHub Actions over OIDC.

Story planning and illustration run on OpenAI models, with Amazon Rekognition as the upload moderation gate.

A React Native companion app is built and tested but not yet published to the stores.
